Signal Whips

We have been selling these beautiful signal whips for a long time now, and we think they are the best out there.  Signal whips are used to steer sled dogs in the vanilla world. But ours are designed and braided for SM use.  We think that matters in the quality of the final product.

These classic beauties come in single colors, two-tone combos, or tri-color choices, plain or with a short section of plaited design.

 Our PermaCore signal whip features free-flowing lead packed into the core body. It's like lead dust. There are no tiny airspaces causing friction and movement, as in shot loaded cores. This reduces friction and shifting a great deal, resulting in a stronger whip, a more fluid action, and a heavier weight with less break-in time to a perfect action. These whips feature flat-braided wrist loops and checkerboard pattern braiding at the top of the whip thong.  This whip is more fluid when new, it really flows nicely when thrown, and cracks real well even when new.

These signal whips are made from tightly braided Kangaroo leather, braided nice and straight down their length. Straight braiding is important because it affects the accuracy of the whip when thrown.  Tight braiding is important because the whip will "break in" with use - the leather will stretch some. If the braiding isn't tight to begin with, the stretching will be excessive and will result in a lifeless, unusable whip.

The signal whips all have braided-in nylon crackers. We think nylon is the best material for crackers because it can be cleaned with bleach or other sanitizer, it holds up to a lot of use without fraying, and it doesn't cut into the leather of the whip thong like kevlar can.

Both 4 foot and 5 foot lengths are shown on this page. 12 or 16 plait is available in both cores. We also make 3 foot signal whips in black, 12 and 8 plait. "Plait" is the term for the number of strands the whip is braided from.

Note: when the crackers wear out on these whips they must be replaced by a whipmaker. If you use them only on soft targets and don't do tricks like snuffing candles, the cracker will last for years. There are 3 crackers built into each signal whip tip.

Mini Snake whips....

 Made just like the full-size snakes in detailed miniature form, with fall and nylon cracker, these also come in single, two-tone combos, or tri-color choices, with fancy plaiting. These whips even feature the snake's head knot on the fall (a small detail hard to show in a picture)! 33 inch braided thong, 12 inch fall. 12 plait only. Shot loaded. The cracker is easily replaced.

New Whip Video!

"Singletails in The Scene" with Roger Stevens and marcie.

By far the best video available for scene use! Roger is a great teacher, and this professional-quality video is a wonderful way to learn control, accuracy, and how to practice. This video is meant for signal whip users, although mini-snakes can be used, as well. Roger has worked hard to become a great whip thrower, he can use up to four at once, two whips in each hand, while maintaining total control and accuracy. Having personally played with Roger and experiencing his skill, we can't recommend this video highly enough! This video has a 2 hour run-time, and demonstrates 3 scenes from light play to hard.

The Mini Bullwhip!

After a long time of perfecting it, we think this item is special.  These beauties have a great heft to them and lay out and crack really nicely. The action is fast and smooth, and it follows true and straight. The braiding is straight and tight, checkerboard pattern at top of thong. Lead loaded body, available in a selection of colors. 12 plait.  Nylon popper.

These whips measure 5 feet from thong knot to end of fall, or 41" thong only. Handle is about 6.5 inches long and is weighted.

Snake and Bull whips.... These shot-loaded beauties come in single, two-tone combos, or tri-color choices. Redhide fall, with nylon cracker. These whips are measured by the plaited portion's length, not including the fall and cracker. Total length of a 4-footer, including fall and cracker, is 6-7 feet. 4 foot (braided length) shown, 6-10 foot whips also available. 12 or 16 plait. All black or two-toned color combos.

 

These choice whips throw very nicely and accurately. We also offer matched pairs, but please be aware that no whipmaker can make 2 whips that are exactly, perfectly identical, they will have their differences due to the nature of this craft and the idiosyncrasies of the materials.
